| Dear Tore,
The "confusion" about the number of evangelicals\protestants in Serbia has to do with the differences between evangelicals and protestants. My statistics (and this is just approximate evaluation - not the final data based on official research!) relates to the approximate number of born again Christians, or evangelical Christians in Serbia (including Baptists, Pentecostals, Church of God, independent charismatic churches, etc.). So, this evaluation cover all Evangelical denominations - and certainly includes gypsy's, which have the biggest Evangelical church in southern Serbia (around 600 members). But, this number exclude traditional churches, such us Lutherans, Reformists, etc. which are, generally saying, nominal Christians and thus not much different then Orthodox and Catholic churches here (these confessions are strictly attached to national minorities, such us Hungarians, Slovakians and are not even trying to influence our society in global way). So, if you are interested in the number of protestants in official, confessional term, then Victor's statistical data are probably more accurate. But, if you want to know the number of Evangelical (or born-again) Christians, then my number is more likely to be true. Anyhow, it would be very good to make some kind of official research when it comes to these statistics! Because, both Victor's and my evaluations are probably far from being definite! We hope this will help you to clear up this confussion! If you still have any dillemas - please don't hesitate to writte again! We'll try to help! Blessings, Jelena Oct 2000 |
